IT’S CHRISTMAS :)

We had a fairly chill Christmas this year, and celebrated exclusively with family instead. The exact opposite of last year, when we celebrated with friends in Shanghai, and no family!

Chris’ Dad, Mum and brother flew in to Singapore to celebrate Christmas, which was really nice because it meant Hunter’s first Christmas was with BOTH sets of grandparents! The spoiled little boy is simply soaking up all the unlimited cuddles and attention he is getting ;)

"Good morning. Is it Christmas yet?"

Kisses from Dad!

We hosted a simple but substantial Christmas Eve dinner at our place.. with a pork roulade, roast beef, roasted veggies and salad. That wasn’t what filled us up though… it was the DESSERT! :P 3 beautiful, large desserts – all of them freakin’ fabulous. Our bellies were totally stuffed afterwards, especially with all the desserts, and we even had leftovers for the next day.

Hunter had one BASH of a Christmas! He received enough presents to fill a toy store ;) I don’t think he quite knew where to start.. and Hunter being Hunter, spent ages just sitting there inspecting each toy carefully, and turning it round and round in his hands. It meant that present-opening took forever and so he had to do it in stages. What a lucky and blessed little boy!

And of course, he received a ton of his favourite 'toy'... BOOKS!!

I hope all of you had a wonderful and meaningful Christmas, celebrating with family and friends :)

Can you believe THE YEAR IS ALMOST OVER?!??!!?

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Warmest wishes and Christmas blessings to you!

We’re spending Christmas here in Shanghai since no airline would let me onboard, and I don’t want to anyway since I am medically cleared to pop “any moment” between now and end of January. I am rather massive and waddling all over the place, so Christmas will be a very chill celebration with just Church in the morning and then a lazy brunch with some friends afterwards. And that’s just perfect for me :)

We didn’t bother with a Christmas tree this year, but Chris did buy this adorable table centerpiece, which is made of real leaves, so we’re quite impressed it’s lasted for the past 2 weeks and still going strong! Tonight, for Christmas eve, Chris will be cooking us a delicious dinner of Roasted salmon, mashed potato and salad and then we are popping in a cheese Christmas DVD and having a cozy evening on the couch.

Best of all, it’s likely to snow today and tomorrow….. our very first white Christmas together! And that’s a pretty big deal, considering we’ve been together for 10 years..

Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas, where ever you are in the world!

PAULANER CHRISTMAS MARKETS

Outdoor fairs are few and far between in China, and since we’re quickly sliding into winter here, we wanted to take full advantage of a particularly sunny yet temperate day and check out the Christmas markets, held by Paulaner restaurant. I liked how the 25元 entry cost could be redeemed at any of the food stalls – fantastic way to keep the masses out, but very reasonable to let us redeem it for food. Hilariously though, the food wasn’t that cheap (think 35元 for the little hash browns below) so the 25元 didn’t exactly go very far ;) I was under the assumption that since it was held on Paulaner’s premises, and their restaurant would obviously benefit with the hundreds of people there, the food stalls would be subsidized and pretty cheap. But nope, it was all actually really expensive. Definitely not value for money, but at least the stalls were all adorably decorated and it did feel like we had stepped out of China.

There were quite a fair number of food stalls, but all strangely sold almost entirely the same foods. Odd that they didn’t have variety. The knick knack stalls were really interesting to potter around and have a look, but most of the stuff was priced for expats/foreigners so we didn’t really get anything. It was lovely walking around soaking in the sun and atmosphere though :)

Germans aren’t gonna like me for saying this, but the sign looks like the printer
exploded and printed gibberish on the banner……. heh!!

The pretty Christmas markets. Doesn’t look like we’re in China, aye?!

Reibekuchen (German hash browns) served with applesauce and
some sort of sticky molasses sauce (forgot what it was!)

Curried German sausages and bread – luscious

We then settled into the Paulaner restaurant itself, which was packed to the brim with families! So many kids running everywhere and a ton of strollers littered all over the place, *lol*. I guess the whole “family scene” is more our kinda thing now, instead of the partying/clubbing scene ;) The portions at Paulaner are really reasonable, which I always take delight in. I think we OD’d on sausages though! In retrospect, would’ve gotten the pork schnitzel or something. Still, lovely food, hit the spot, and a nice way to spend a lazy weekend :)

OUR 1ST CHRISTMAS IN CHINA

Christmas Eve was a pretty chill one with a bunch of friends. We all met up at Lange Bar & Restaurant which were having a fabulous 200元 all-you-can-eat-and-drink special. I loved the turkey they served up, complete with choice of 3 sauces, and all the home-style trimmings like roast pumpkin and potatoes, pasta salads, etc. Satisfying, and we could eat as much as we want. What could be better?

And unlike many (actually, all) other all-you-can-eat/drink places, they didn’t skimp on the food, nor the alcohol. OH NO – in fact, they were repeatedly asking us “More wine? More cocktails? Come on!!” the whole night. And let’s just say their cocktails were S-T-R-O-N-G, hooboy! On regular nights, the cocktails are only 40元 too, the cheapest we’ve found in Shanghai (and even more so, considering they’re not watered down).

Merry Christmas

We spent most of the actual Christmas Day in bed, because we were so tired from the night before! We slept in til almost noon, then headed off to Bistro Latitude, a French restaurant, then headed back home afterwards to sleep some more, haha.

Bistro Latitude is special to us, because it was our last non-married date place. We went a few days before getting married and it was a really special date for us.. because we knew that shortly afterwards, we’d be married. So we thought it would be nice to go back there for Christmas lunch.

We had the Swiss cheese fondue, which was absolutely delicious. Sort of on the unhealthy side (okay, very much so!) but it was FABULOUS and really sated my hankering for cheese, cheese and more cheeeessssseeee :)~

Swiss cheese fondue…… mmmm….

A cold cut platter to go with the fondue

After lunch, it was… errrr… sleeping some more! When we finally woke up (and the cheese fondue had settled in our bellies), we cooked up Christmas dinner. We got a rack of lamb and made lamb chops – Chris’ speciality :) And some rosemary and garlic potatoes, baked straight out of the oven.

A mega satisfying dinner, with our own mini family now :) Fur-kids included, of course!
